THE SEVEN SECRETS OF RESILIENCE

Written by Anita Molavi | Mar 29, 2023 12:14:10 PM

This is a great summary from Dr. Gary Chapman, the Author of The 5 Love Languages®️, about resilience.

"Some people falsely believe once they get into a relationship and finally find that special someone that suddenly all their problems will go away. This couldn't be further from the truth.

Conflict and challenges in life are unavoidable and being in a relationship will not change that. The good news, however, is you once you are in a relationship, you will have the opportunity to face these challenges together. The bad news is that when faced with difficult seasons in life, couples can sometimes begin to blame each other or create walls that cause emotional distance or separation. This only makes a bad situation worse.

After hearing many stories to this end, I've come up with a few secrets that the most resilient couples know and put into practice. If you are in a challenging situation right now as a couple, my hope is that you'll make it through stronger together.

THE SEVEN SECRETS OF RESILIENCE

  • Understand all couples will face difficulties.
  • Focus on solving the problem, rather than blaming each other. In doing so, you'll be more likely to find a solution.
  • A positive attitude always wins. You cannot change circumstances, but you can change your attitude.
  • You will not always understand why things happen. The question is not, “Why did this happen to us?” but rather, “What can we learn from this experience?”
  • Listening to each other is always better than yelling at each other.
  • You need each other. Together you will survive the problem.
  • Turning to God and trusting Him with your pain is always better than running away from Him.

Although these seven secrets can be applied in any adult couple's relationship, they are especially pertinent for couples in the second half of life—when challenges seem to abound. If you want a marriage that goes the distance, you'll find more helpful insights in Dr. Gary Chapman's book (with Harold Myra) called Married and Still Loving It (now 30% OFF)."
